Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.

ERI@N is establishing capabilities and physical test setups to support emerging industry requirements for testing and verification of energy related applications such as energy storage systems (ESS), microgrid solutions, photovoltaic (PV) inverters, and electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. This position is to recruit a member of the key technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • You will need to actively support R&D projects at EPGC in terms of project development, testing and verification/validation activities, test logistics planning/coordination, and sourcing and procurement.

  • The role will include the following:

    • Lead in development of test requirements and test setups, drafting new SOPs, test procedures; coordination with project partners, industry and other external stakeholders.

    • Familiarization of test standards for microgrids, data centres, ESS and EV charging; understanding of existing test procedures and processes.

    • Hands-on setup of test instrumentation; conducting tests on actual equipment-under-test.

    • Prepare project reports, minutes of meetings and documentation.

    • Host visits and presentations at test facility.

  • You will also be responsible for daily operations of the EPGC facilities, including the following:

    • Lead in test planning/coordination activities at EPGC facility or collaborators’ locations.

    • Work with vendors/suppliers/contractors to ensure operational condition of test equipment/systems.

    • Perform safety and quality assessments, periodic operation and inspection tasks related to test setups.

    • Sourcing and procurement of project/facility consumables.

  • You will be an integral part of the Testing & Certification team and will need to participate in project discussions especially related to project implementation details.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in engineering (e.g. Electrical, Power Systems, or Clean/Renewable Energy related) with minimum 2 years’ relevant experience (preferred).

  • Trained in IEC/ISO 17025, familiarity with microgrid/ESS/EVSE technical standards, and experience in SAC SINGLAS lab accreditation activities preferred.

  • Proficient in MS Office applications.

  • Should be a very hands-on person, willing to take on non-routine tasks.

  • Possess good communication (written and verbal) skills.

  • Able to manage multiple stakeholders and work under tight timelines.

  • Positive attitude, ability to work independently as well as in a team.

  • Familiarity with electrical and power systems, energy storage systems, EV charging systems, test & measurement instruments, sensors/sensor networks, and PLC systems is preferred.

  • Prior experience in standards-based testing and DC grid applications would be advantageous
