About the Position:
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering invites applications from qualified candidates for THREE tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2021. The three areas are:
1) Biomedical Engineering. At the time of appointment, candidates must have earned a Ph.D. and show evidence of research and demonstrate teaching interests in an area of Biomedical Engineering such as bioinstrumentation, biomedical signal or image processing, diagnostic systems, biomedical informatics. Candidates must possess leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.
2) Communications Engineering. At the time of appointment, candidates must have earned a Ph.D. and show evidence of research and demonstrate teaching interests for cutting-edge networking/communication technologies, emerging areas in communication theory, algorithms, systems and networks, as well as computing and signal processing for communication systems and networks, while showing a strong knowledge in foundational areas of communication systems and a broad understanding on all aspects of communication systems.
3) Visual Servoing. At the time of appointment, candidates must have earned a Ph.D., and show evidence of research and demonstrate teaching interests in the field of vision-based robot control, especially as it applies to autonomous vehicles (aerial, above/under- ground, above/under-water).
For each position, the candidate will be expected to build a strong collaborative and interdisciplinary research program in the respective area, teach engineering undergraduate/graduate courses as well as courses that support other academic programs, to supervise innovative senior undergraduate projects, to mentor graduate (PhD, Masters) students, and to contribute to continuous curriculum improvement, quality assurance reviews and promotion events.
About the Academic Unit:
The Department of Systems and Computer Engineering (http://carleton.ca/sce/) is a research-intensive department. The Department participates in a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs covering the Electrical and Computer Engineering spectrum including Biomedical and Electrical Engineering. Within Carleton, there is established and emerging research strength in health, wellness, and health sciences, representing opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration (e.g., with biology, health sciences, neuroscience). Externally, there is significant potential for collaborations with industry, government labs, and the local hospitals, which represent one of the largest teaching and research hospital institutions in Canada.
In addition to the position-specific qualifications listed above, candidates should have a demonstrated interest for both theoretical and applied/experimental research with potential for large technological and societal impact. Candidates must possess leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills. They should exhibit strong potential to build an externally funded, innovative, and internationally recognized research program. The candidates should have a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate/graduate teaching excellence and mentoring undergraduate/graduate students. The candidates will show evidence of an interest in innovative teaching methods, in collaborative and interdisciplinary approaches to research and teaching, and aptitudes for building bridges with community, industry, and government agencies.
Candidates must show membership in a Canadian professional engineering association, or evidence that membership in such an association can be secured according to the accreditation criteria and procedures set by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board.
