Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering - Thermal Science
Position location: Kingston
The position is full time, academic year, tenure-track, permanent.
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Systems Engineering at the University of Rhode Island (URI) invites applications at the Assistant Professor level from outstanding individuals with demonstrated expertise or research potential in the broad area of Thermal Sciences and Energy Systems.
Applicable areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
Chemically reactive energy systems
Low carbon fuels
Carbon storage and sequestration
Hydrogen economy
Energy storage
Thermal radiation and its applications
Multi-phase heat transfer
Shipboard and undersea vehicle energy systems, power and propulsion
Low carbon shipping
Generative AI-assisted thermal system simulation or management
Nuclear energy.

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research program and become an international leader in this field. She/He will have earned a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.
