The Department of Biomedical Engineering at Michigan Technological University invites applications and nominations for a faculty position opening, at the assistant professor level and/or a lecturer in biomedical engineering. Michigan Tech BME seeks outstanding candidates who can add to our existing research and teaching strengths in multiple research areas.
For the assistant professor position, applicants that can teach courses in our core undergraduate curriculum and expand the Department’s already strong industrial ties are of particular interest. Post-doctoral or industry experience is preferred. We encourage applications from individuals with strong engineering and mathematical skills who can form productive external collaborations with the medical device industry as well as with other units of the Michigan Tech College of Engineering. Applicants should have earned a doctorate in an engineering discipline or a closely related field and a research focus on human health. The successful candidate will be expected to teach core undergraduate courses in biomedical engineering such as biomechanics, biomaterials, computational physiology, or instrumentation, as well as graduate courses related to their own research expertise. In addition, applicants must demonstrate the ability to establish a rigorous, externally funded research program. Specific research focus areas are open; however, the applicant’s research should complement and strengthen existing focus areas in the Department. The Department is particularly strong in cardiovascular engineering, biomaterials, tissue engineering, biomechanics, biomedical sensors and instrumentation, and biomedical imaging.
For the lecturer position, the Department seeks applicants who can teach undergraduate core courses in Experimental Laboratory Techniques, Biomaterials, and/or Biomechanics, or other BME core courses, as well as help supervise senior design projects. Experience with online teaching is desired. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in biomedical engineering or a related field. Although a PhD is desired, those with an MS and several years of teaching experience are encouraged to apply. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is strongly desired. Opportunities for research exist.
The Michigan Tech Department of Biomedical Engineering offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in Biomedical Engineering. For more information, potential applicants are encouraged to visit our website at http://www.mtu.edu/biomedical/.
The anticipated starting date for both positions is no later than August of 2020. Salary and benefits are competitive, and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Interested candidates should apply electronically to https://www.employment.mtu.edu/en-us/listing/ and include a cover letter, full curriculum vitae, a brief statement of research and teaching interests and experiences, and the names and contact information of three professional references. Review of applicants will begin immediately. All applications should be received by July 1, 2020.
