The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Utah seeks candidates who can be world-class leaders in the design, fabrication, testing, and application of electronic and optoelectronic devices to fill an opening for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, although exceptional candidates will be considered at other ranks. The ECE Department has strong programs in Solid State/MEMS/Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing, Computer Engineering, EM/Optics, and Power Systems and Control. We have established a world-leading effort in epitaxial and single crystal ultrawide bandgap oxide devices and are interested to continue building this area. However exceptional candidates working in other device- and fabrication-oriented subareas or using different material sets will be given thorough consideration. Candidates can expect to leverage our existing world-class facilities within the purpose-built ~24,000 sq ft. Utah Nanofab and Surface Analysis Lab (commissioned in 2013). These facilities include an OMVPE reactor for (Al,Ga)2O3 which adds to the Department’s electrical and optoelectronic test and measurement facilities. Candidates with expertise in related areas, as well as outstanding candidates in any area are encouraged to apply. We seek individuals who demonstrate exceptional potential for or evidence of leading a high-impact, world-class funded research program training PhD students over decades. All candidates must have strong aptitude for effective teaching in core and specialized areas of our curriculum at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Faculty responsibilities include developing and maintaining an internationally recognized research program, effective classroom teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and service to the local and international professional communities.

Applicants should apply online and include a CV, names and contact information for at least three references, a statement of research, a teaching statement, and a cover letter. Applications will be reviewed upon receipt, and will be accepted until the position is filled, preferably in Spring 2022. Applicants must hold a PhD in ECE or a closely related discipline by the time of appointment.

EDI Commitment
The Electrical and Computer Engineering Department is committed to fostering and preserving a culture of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). We recognize the need to develop a diverse and inclusive faculty, staff, and student body and encourage applicants with a wide range of backgrounds, experiences and expertise to apply.

The Department has been growing steadily in the past 2 decades, has a strong focus on world-class research and currently has >40 faculty members and >115 doctoral students enrolled. Current ECE faculty members have founded or co-founded several successful companies; the University has been consistently ranked as one of the top schools for startup creation. The Department also has strong collaborations with the medical research community and industry. The Salt Lake City metro area is a global and diverse (by any social metric) metropolitan city with 1.2 million residents and an easy-access international airport. The metro area and state of Utah more broadly boast an outstanding quality of life, are comparatively-affordable, and offer unparalleled access to world-class recreation and natural beauty. Come join us!
