The F. Joseph Halcomb III, M.D. Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the Pigman College of Engineering at the University of Kentucky invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in biomedical engineering at the level of Assistant Professor. Applicants should have earned a Ph.D. in an Engineering discipline with significant post-doctoral experience. The ideal candidate will engage in vigorous research that applies engineering principles to solve healthcare challenges in an area that complements the current faculty expertise in the department, including (i) biomechanics, and (ii) assistive technologies/ rehabilitation engineering. Strong candidates with expertise in cardiovascular engineering, computational modeling, MRI imaging, and AI/ML applications will also be considered. Women and other candidates under-represented in engineering are especially encouraged to apply. The desired start date is August 2025. The successful applicant will be expected to develop and maintain a strong externally funded, globally recognized research program at the University of Kentucky, and actively participate in the teaching and service missions of the University.
The University of Kentucky is one of only a small number of U.S. institutions having a major academic medical center with all health sciences colleges and the full spectrum of academic colleges on a single campus. BME is located centrally within the Pigman College of Engineering and within walking distance of the Colleges of Arts & Sciences, Dentistry, Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health, Design, Business, etc. The University is in Lexington, a city of 300,000 residents in the heart of the rolling hills and horse farms of the Bluegrass region of central Kentucky, an area consistently rated among the best places to relocate and raise a family. The cost of living is low compared with most major metropolitan regions in the U.S. Recreational opportunities (e.g., hiking, cycling, horseback-riding, fishing, hunting, and boating) are enjoyed by many residents. The local arts community focuses on Appalachian music, country dance, and crafts. Cincinnati and Louisville are each less than a 90-minute drive away.
Interested applicants should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research plan, teaching/advising statement, and contact information for at least three references
Application review will begin on October 18, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
