Faculty Position in Civil Engineering (Transportation)
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at The Pennsylvania State University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure track/tenured faculty position at the Assistant or Associate professor level in Transportation Engineering. All areas within transportation engineering will be considered, though candidates with expertise within the following areas are preferred: connected and/or autonomous vehicle operations, mobility data analysis, smart city applications, cyber-enabled simulation and analysis of road networks using sensing and advanced technologies. The candidate will join a core group of faculty that has established research programs in transportation safety, geometric design of highways and streets, transportation operations/traffic flow theory, infrastructure management and statistical and econometric modeling of transportation systems.
The CEE Department is a vibrant and dynamic unit with 34 faculty members, 17 research scientists, annual research expenditures of $18M, and U.S. News and World Report rankings of 13th and 21st, respectively, for undergraduate and graduate programs in civil engineering. Department faculty members have received prestigious honors including many professional society awards, 12 NSF CAREER awards, and one NAE membership. Penn State is one of the nation's leading research universities with expenditures exceeding $1 billion annually. Applicants should have a Doctoral degree in civil engineering or related field at the start of the appointment. In addition, the preferred candidate should have demonstrated teaching experience through academic courses, professional conference presentations, or related activities. Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) is desirable. The successful applicant is expected to develop a research program leading to national and international recognition, and teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
