The College of Engineering at Wichita State University is pleased to announce a search for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in its School of Computing at the assistant professor level to start in August 2024 or on a mutually agreed date. We seek candidates who will provide inspiration and leadership in research and are eager to contribute proactively to the inclusive hands-on learning environment that is a hallmark of our educational programs. Faculty duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, conducting original scholarly research, actively seeking external research funding, mentoring students, and performing departmental service. The School offers two B.S. degrees (Computer Science and Cybersecurity), three M.S. degrees (Computer Science, Data Science, and Computing) and a Ph.D. degree. There are ample opportunities to build partnerships with companies both on and off campus.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related discipline by the beginning of employment. Applicants with evidence of demonstrated research potential in all areas of Computer Science will be considered.
We strongly encourage applications from candidates who will bring diverse perspectives to the College, and who enjoy working side-by-side with students and colleagues from a variety of backgrounds. About a third of the students in the College and almost half of the students at the University are first-generation. More than 16,000 students attend Wichita State, and the 330-acre campus is an architectural showpiece that includes an outdoor sculpture collection containing 77 works. WSU is family friendly. Available to all faculty are educational benefits for spouses and dependents, same-sex spouse benefits, and family leave. Very important for new faculty, there are also provisions to pause tenure review if they become a parent. WSU is a recipient of an NSF ADVANCE Catalyst award to assess and create avenues for women and minority STEM faculty to achieve their career goals.
Enrollment is growing steadily at Wichita State, and in particular, in the College of Engineering. A large fraction of our students works throughout the year in paid jobs at the 20+ companies on the Innovation Campus. In addition to the companies, the Innovation Campus is home to the National Institute of Aviation Research (NIAR), the new Deloitte Smart Factory@Wichita, the Crash Dynamics Lab, and the John Bardo Center where both the Innovation Hub and GoCreate maker spaces are located. The College of Engineering is ranked #59 nationally by USN&WR.
