Abstract:
The candidate will collaborate with researchers from the project “Restoration of native vegetation for carbon sequestration – RestoreC” of the FAPESP-Shell Research Centre for Greenhouse Gas Innovation of POLI-USP at the University of São Paulo. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for the subproject “Evaluation of biomass and biodiversity in different approaches for Cerrado restoration”, which the objective is to undertake evaluations of above and belowground biomass and carbon stocks and metrics of biodiversity in different Cerrado restoration approaches.

Description:
The applicant will contribute in line with the main objectives of the project:

1.    Measure indicators of biodiversity, biomass and C in Cerrado restoration sites
2.    Identify the relationship between biodiversity and biomass indicators and C in Cerrado restoration
3.    Identify potential drivers of biodiversity and C recovery in Cerrado restoration
4.    Propose a protocol for collecting scientific data on biodiversity and C in the Cerrado

Requirements to fill the position:
This project would be well-suited to a highly motivated candidate with proficiency in English and Portuguese. The position requires skills in field data collection, data analysis, writing and publishing scientific articles in English. 
It is necessary to be able to perform the botanical identification of Cerrado plants and to have an advanced knowledge in data analysis. In addition, the candidate must be available for long-term travel for data collection in the field. A driving license and a good record of scientific publications are also required.
The candidate must have completed a doctorate on the topic of ecological restoration or plant ecology.

INFORMATION ABOUT FELLOWSHIP:
This Postdoc fellowship is funded by FAPESP. The fellowship will cover a standard maintenance stipend of R$12.000,00 per month.
