Position Summary: The School of Applied Engineering and Technology (SAET) of the Newark College of Engineering at NJIT is searching for a Sr. University Lecturer for its Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Technology Division (SEMD), specializing in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology (ECET). The candidate will teach primarily undergraduate courses in the ECET program and serve as the Program Coordinator. Teaching may include both lower and upper level as well as lab courses. The ideal candidate will have a broad set of ECET skills with familiarity in the major branches of ECET including power systems engineering, control systems, communications, electronics engineering, microelectronics, hardware systems, cybersecurity, and networking. In addition, the preferred candidate would have specific experience in power systems engineering. The individual should be willing to work with colleagues to develop new teaching approaches, curriculum, and experiential opportunities in the NJIT Makerspace. S/he will teach in accordance with the policies and standards of the department and the direction of the Chairperson. In addition, although this is primarily a teaching position, the candidate may also be involved in other activities in accordance with the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement.
Essential Functions: Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students. Participate in course, program, and experiential learning development as required along with the formal assessment of student performance. Participate in student events and external outreach activities as required. Serve as Program Coordinator working with an academic advisor and department chairperson to administer the program to students. This includes program development, organizing and managing part time/fulltime instructor teaching assignments, communicating with community colleges, recruitment/retention activities, scheduling of courses, student advisement, organizing constituent meetings [e.g. Industrial Advisory Board (IAB)], and leading ABET accreditation related activities.
Prerequisite Qualifications: - Candidates with a minimum of a M.S. in Engineering, or related field, together with strong industrial experience will be seriously considered. - A minimum of five years teaching experience in higher education. - At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Strong preference will be given to applicants with industrial experience, Professional Engineering licensure, and a Ph.D. in Engineering or related field.
