The Department of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering at the United States Naval Academy invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position(s) in Ocean Engineering. The Ocean Engineering program is ABET-accredited and offers an undergraduate curriculum with specialty tracks in civil, environmental, and coastal aspects of Ocean Engineering and in deep-ocean technology.

Minimum requirements include an earned doctoral degree in Ocean Engineering, or in a closely-related discipline, such as Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Preference will be given for appointment at the Assistant Professor level; however, exceptionally well-qualified candidates with significant experience will be considered for appointment at the Associate Professor level. We seek candidates who can support teaching in a broad range of Ocean Engineering topics such as water treatment, renewable energy, sustainability, wave mechanics, structures, geotechnical engineering, marine material science, and computational methods. Candidates must also demonstrate an ability to successfully publish research in peer-reviewed venues.

Candidates will be expected to teach at the undergraduate level and to establish a program of research and scholarship, making use of the Academy’s world-class Ocean Engineering laboratories, which include two wave/towing tanks and coastal engineering basin. As an institution dedicated to educating future naval officers, the Naval Academy seeks candidates who will be outstanding teachers and role-models for Midshipmen. The student body of the US Naval Academy reflects the population of the United States. Faculty who can effectively mentor or teach a diverse cohort of students are sought. The proposed starting date is summer 2023. Application review will begin on December 1, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
