Tenure Track Faculty Position in Biomedical Engineering

In the Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering

Florida A&M University – Florida State University College of Engineering

The Department of Chemical & Biomedical Engineering (CBE) at the Florida A&M University (FAMU)-Florida State University (FSU) College of Engineering invites applications from highly qualified individuals for a tenure track faculty position in biomedical engineering, in the city of Tallahassee, Florida.  We are seeking faculty candidates for an assistant professor position.

CBE has a dynamic group of faculty members actively involved in research encompassing various areas of biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, and materials science and engineering. Successful candidates will have many opportunities to interact and collaborate with the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, FSU College of Medicine, college of engineering’s new Department of Materials Science and Engineering, FSU Institute of Molecular Biophysics, FSU Jim Moran School of Entrepreneurship, FSU Departments of Scientific Computing, and Chemistry and Biochemistry as well as the FAMU Departments of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry and Physics. (Details can be found at the Department web page: www.eng.fsu.edu/cbe).

The FAMU-FSU College of Engineering is the nexus of two major public universities, each with a distinct mission but focused on world-class engineering education and research. Created by the Florida Legislature in 1982, the joint institution is the college of engineering for both Florida A&M and Florida State universities. This unique combination of focus, resources and mission from our parent institutions has created on our campus a truly innovative atmosphere that leverages the benefits of the traditional HBCU model with the innovations of an R-1 public research university. After completing pre-requisites at their home institution, FAMU and FSU students learn, study and research together at our independent campus with joint-appointed faculty and staff. Students graduate from their enrolling university and from the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. Both FAMU and FSU are part of the State University System of Florida and are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Additionally, all seven of the college’s eligible undergraduate degree programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, https://www.abet.org.

Candidates must possess an earned Ph.D. in biomedical engineering, or a related discipline, and demonstrate documented potential for outstanding research. Priority will be given to candidates who can integrate with the existing research programs and interact with current faculty members in the department.  Examples of priority areas include cell-tissue-materials interactions, biomaterials, the full range of issues from the materials synthesis to the cellular aspects, biomanufacturing, and medical applications. This position can potentially interact with FSU Health Initiative through clinical applications and with other researchers with expertise in polymers and magnetic resonance imaging.

Successful candidates are expected to develop research programs that are internationally recognized with significant and sustained funding, incorporate interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across campus, and demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in education. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and supervising undergraduate, graduate and post-doctoral researchers are expected.

If qualified and interested in the position, applicants should apply to Florida State University at https://hr.fsu.edu/facultyjobs, Job ID: 58690, with the following documents:

  1. A cover letter
  2. A full curriculum vitae

  4. A 1-page teaching statement
  5. No more than three selected publications for review
  6. The names and contact information of four potential references
  7. An Equal Employment Opportunity Survey for Faculty Applicants
