    The Institute of Catastrophe Risk Management (ICRM) at NTU invites applications for a Research Fellow as a modeller in natural catastrophes exposure and loss. ICRM is a multi-disciplinary catastrophe risk management research institute which develops understandings and models of Asia’s risks related to natural disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, typhoons, and floods, and non-traditional risks such as infectious diseases and terrorism. This position at ICRM is for developing and maintaining the ICRM’s exposure and loss models, running of in-house risk models, exposure and loss data collection and outreach activities.


     


    Key Responsibilities:




    • Produce output data and papers/reports relating to exposure and loss, cascading loss effects




    • Establish procedures on data quality assurance




    • Develop documentation.




     


    Job Requirements:




    • PhD degree in Civil Engineering or in Engineering in a closely relevant field.




    • Familiar with data and models, and software used in exposure and loss modelling.




    • Competency in programming languages, such as Matlab, R, or Python, within a GIS environment




    • Able to publish and communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences




    • Able to advance research for emerging risks such as relating to climate and urbanization




    • Domain knowledge via PhD work and/or with the insurance industry would be preferrable.




    • Self-motivated, pro-active, results-oriented professional with an ability to work with minimal supervision in dealing with data uncertainties




    • Good written and verbal communication skills




    • Strong presentation skills




    • Good in articulating data characteristics and research results




    • Able to work effectively as an individual and in a team.
