    The William B. Burnsed Jr. Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering (www.southalabama.edu/colleges/engineering/me/) at the University of South Alabama (USA) in Mobile, Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Aerospace Engineering. The expected starting date is January 1, 2025. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. The successful candidate must have a record of outstanding scholarship and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate engineering education. Applicants with research interests in any areas of aerospace engineering are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate courses in aerospace engineering, graduate engineering courses relevant to their expertise, and develop a successful program of scholarly research, including external funding and publication.


    Located in the beautiful historic city of Mobile, the University of South Alabama has a Carnegie Classification of "Doctoral University: High Research Activity" and is recognized as a National University by USNews.com and by "Washington Monthly." The university enrolls over 13,500 students in its ten colleges and schools. Mobile is home to Airbus America’s Engineering Center and the first Airbus assembly lines in North America. The city serves as a busy U.S. port and a main center of commerce for the 600,000 residents of Alabama's two coastal counties.


    The William B. Burnsed Jr. Department of Mechanical, Aerospace, and Biomedical Engineering is housed in Shelby Hall, a modern 155,000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art building. The department offers the BSME degree (ABET accredited) with a Biomedical Engineering track, and the MSME degree. Starting in Fall 2024, the department will also offer the BSAE degree and is proactively preparing for its first ABET review in 2029. The College of Engineering offers the Ph.D. degree in Systems Engineering and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering track in conjunction with the USA College of Medicine. Opportunities exist for collaborative research with the faculty in the College of Medicine and with the growing aerospace industry in the region.
