recognized research program, teach core and elective undergraduate and graduate courses in
bioengineering and/or chemical engineering, mentor a diverse group of students, perform professional
service, and publish scholarly work. VSCEB welcomes strong candidates working in the fields of
experimental metabolic engineering, microbial engineering, or synthetic biology to address challenges in
any of the following areas: energy, environment, and health-related research. Preference will be given to
candidates working at the interface of chemical engineering and bioengineering to uniquely strengthen
our existing research programs. VSCEB has a strong focus on the research of catalysis, CO2 fixing, plastic
recycling, electrosymbiotic engineering, microbial biofilms, metabolic engineering, molecular
programming, human health-related protein and tissue engineering, and biomechanics. Successful
candidates are expected to build collaborations within the Voiland School and with the Pacific Northwest
National Laboratory, other WSU departments, nationally and internationally.

Required qualifications for all candidates at all ranks:
    • An earned PhD in chemical engineering, bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely
related field prior to the start of the appointment.
    • Ability to teach core bioengineering and/or chemical engineering classes and commit to services
and collaborate with diverse internal and external groups.
    • Demonstrated record of scholarly work.

    Required Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
    • The potential to establish a strong, nationally recognized research program with extramural
funding that complements and uniquely enhances existing programs within the school and
    Washington State University.

    Required Qualifications for Associate Professor:
    • A record of a robust, nationally recognized, extramurally funded research program that
complements and uniquely strengthens existing programs within the school and Washington State
    University.

    Preferred Qualifications for Assistant Professor:
    • Experience serving as teaching assistants for Chemical Engineering and/or Bioengineering
    classes.

    Preferred Qualifications for Associate Professor:
    • Experience serving as instructors for Chemical Engineering and/or Bioengineering classes.
    • Must meet requirements of an Associate Professor as described by the WSU Faculty Manual:
