  • Full-Time Tenure-Track Faculty Position Industrial & Systems Engineering Department
Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering
    University of Southern California

The University of Southern California invites applications for multiple tenured and tenure-track positions in the Daniel J. Epstein Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (https://ise.usc.edu/) in the USC Viterbi School of Engineering (https://viterbischool.usc.edu/).  Appointments can be made at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and/or Professor ranks. Candidates at the senior ranks must have demonstrated research excellence and sustained commitment to the discipline and are expected to have a vibrant research program with external funding.  Exceptional senior candidates may be considered for a chaired professorship.  The USC Viterbi School is committed to increasing the diversity of our faculty and welcomes applications from women; persons of African, Hispanic and Native American descent; veterans; and persons with disabilities.  Outstanding senior applicants who have demonstrated academic excellence and leadership, and whose past activities document a commitment to issues involving the advancement of women in science and engineering may be also considered for the Lloyd Armstrong, Jr. Endowed Chair, which is supported by USC’s Women in Science and Engineering (WiSE) Program endowment.

We invite applications from outstanding candidates with demonstrated excellence and commitment in Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE).  Accomplished candidates with expertise in the core ISE methodological areas (e.g., optimization, probability, simulation, statistics, systems lifecycle analysis, and computational science) and interest in solving important societal problems (including but not limited to supply chain, transportation and logistics, healthcare, finance) are encouraged to apply.  Applications from candidates with expertise in data science, machine learning, and related areas are also encouraged.

Our department’s search this year aligns with USC’s $1 billion Frontiers of Computing initiative, the largest, most comprehensive academic initiative in the university’s history (http://computing.usc.edu). The initiative has already resulted in the creation of the new USC School of Advanced Computing (http://sac.usc.edu), which aims to advance computing research and expand USC’s presence in Silicon Beach, L.A. County’s tech corridor. Candidates have the opportunity to be affiliated with our new USC School of Advanced Computing, with priority given to those whose research aligns with one or more of the following affinity areas: computing and (i) sustainability, (ii) security, (iii) health, and (iv) systems.

We seek energetic individuals who will participate in the department’s and the university’s research enterprise and engage with students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  Successful candidates will establish a strong, externally funded, research program of national prominence while contributing to the core teaching mission of a top ISE department. An earned doctorate in Industrial and Systems Engineering, or a closely related field, is required.
