    Description:


    This is a 1-year position, with potential for extension. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with engineers from Arizona State University, led by Mary Laura Lind, and ALTR FLTR. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated team-player who will be a key contributor to a dynamic multi-disciplinary team that is undertaking investigations on development, testing, and translation of separation technologies from the laboratory to industrial practice. The candidate will be responsible for a research project on direct or indirect reduction of alcohol in wine or similar alcoholic drinks. The candidate should be proficient in using necessary research tools, both of literature research, lab skills and has a keen understanding of the past and future trending in dealcoholization or sugar separation membrane/chromatography technology. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to the development of the proof-of-concept in alcohol reduction from pre-fermented or post-fermented drinks, involving novel chemistry physics or engineering principles. The candidate will be expected to interface with the employees of the prime sponsor, ALTR FLTR. 


    ALTR FLTR is a small business and the successful candidate will be expected to be flexible and contribute to various project activities as required. ALTR FLTR is a beverage technology startup transforming the binary nature of drinking, where alcohol becomes simply an ingredient; you choose how much you want: a little, a lot, or none. To achieve this, ALTR FLTR is developing revolutionary nanotechnology that removes alcohol from drinks at a molecular level, leaving both the drink and the social ritual intact—allowing every beverage maker to develop low- and no-alcohol drinks without compromise.


    Arizona State University is located in the greater Phoenix metro area, in the beautiful Sonoran Desert.     Desired Knowledge:


    Direct experiences in sugar/water separations will be a plus. Experience with membrane /chromatography separation processes; in addition, direct experiences in sugar/water or water/alcohol separations will be a plus. Beverage industry knowledge or experience is a plus. Experience in data analysis and statistical knowledge. Other experience in polymer synthesis, 3-D printing, Solidworks/CATIA/Autocad/UG or Pro-E design and drawing, and basic machining is desired but not required. It is expected that the candidate will have a strong hands-on background in separations and the ability to rigorously document all work completed. The ideal candidate will be a highly self-motivated individual with excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with people from a variety of different professional backgrounds.


    Required Qualifications:


    A Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Food Science, Environmental Engineering or Science, Chemistry or a related discipline with 0-2 years of experience; or a M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Food Science or a related discipline with 3-5 years of industrial experience. The candidate must be eligible for employment in the United States. The successful candidate will be required to pass a background check and must not be excluded from participation in federal programs.
