    The Flow Control Lab (https://sites.google.com/hawk.iit.edu/xuanhongan/about) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (South Dakota Mines) is seeking Ph.D. students with backgrounds in applied mathematics, physics, or engineering for research in the field of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), experimental fluid mechanics and data-driven modeling.


    Our research is focused on pioneering innovative design concepts to enhance the performance of aircraft and underwater vehicles and developing low-order models for controlling aircraft in extreme flight conditions such as dynamic stall. We collaborate with esteemed research labs at institutions including Princeton University, the University of Iowa, Florida State University, the University of Dayton, and the Air Force Research Lab.


    The principal investigator, Dr. Xuanhong An, of the Flow Control Lab, earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology and completed a postdoctoral position at Princeton University before joining South Dakota Mines.
