  • Postdoctoral Research Associate
    Chemical Biomolecular and Corrosion Engineering

    Highly motivated individuals with a PhD or MD/PhD in relevant areas are encouraged to apply. This position, under the direct supervision of Dr. Nic Leipzig at The University of Akron (https://leipzigbioe.com/) will provide practical training and experience in a research setting. The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a commitment to research, a collaborative work ethic and strong communication skills, both written and verbal. This program is expected to be completed within 3 years.


    Major topics to be pursued by this position:



    1. Stem cell engineering and integration into regenerative medicine treatments for central nervous system injuries.

    2. Drug delivery and biomaterial platform development for integration into regenerative medicine treatments for central nervous system injuries.


    Responsibilities


    The Postdoctoral Researcher will:



    • Assist and communicate with Principal Investigator (PI) regarding research lab experiments and/or computational analysis.

    • Perform research, data acquisition, and data processing.

    • Write progress reports and summarize results.

    • Prepare scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts.

    • Support, manage, and mentor other laboratory members and students.

    • Manage and maintain laboratory equipment, perform administrative tasks.

    • Maintain stock reagents and solutions; order supplies and equipment.

    • Perform additional duties as assigned.


     


    Additional Position Information:


    Qualifications



    • Minimum qualifications include a Ph.D. in related disciplines such as biomedical engineering, neuroscience, biomedical sciences, chemical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, polymer science, polymer engineering, biochemistry, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, or related discipline and previous relevant laboratory experience.

    • Ability to adapt and apply academic and practical knowledge to research required.

    • Working knowledge of polymer synthesis and/or processing; drug delivery, therapeutic processing and/or delivery; cell culture; biological assays; in vivo studies.

    • English Proficiency proof required for candidates arriving on J-1, J-2, or F1 + OPT visa status.
