    The Nuclear Engineering Program within the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of South Carolina (USC) in Columbia is seeking qualified applicants for tenured and tenure-track faculty position.


    Applicants at all ranks and with a strong vision for nuclear engineering education are highly encouraged to apply.


    Applicants must possess a Ph.D. degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a closely related field by the start date of employment, a demonstrated record of research accomplishments, and an outstanding capacity for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses. Applicants for the rank of Associate Professor and Full Professor must also have years of relevant academic experience commensurate with academic policy plus strong, sustained records of excellence in teaching and research, to include competitive funding and interdisciplinary collaborations.


    Successful candidates will be expected to develop internationally recognized, externally funded research programs in cutting edge areas of nuclear engineering. While all candidates will be considered, the areas of interest include advanced nuclear fuels and materials, reactor design, nuclear safeguards, or modeling and simulation.


    The Carnegie Foundation has designated USC a “high research and high service activity” university. The Mechanical Engineering Department where the Nuclear Engineering Program resides has two National Academy of Engineering (NAE) members, six endowed chairs and 35 full-time faculty, with an undergraduate enrollment of over 900 students, a graduate enrollment of over 150 students, and over $10 million in research expenditures per year. USC offers the only graduate (MS and PhD) Nuclear Engineering Program in the State of South Carolina, in addition to offering a minor in NE for undergraduates.
