Tenure Track Professor in Organization Design
The vacancy at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Management is open to outstanding individuals with strong research and teaching interest. Ideal applicants enjoy intellectual leadership and strive for academic excellence and inspiring people around them. The call is primarily open on the Assistant Professor level. However, exceptional candidates at other levels will also be considered.
Your role and goals
The tenure track position in Organization Design seeks to contribute to the understanding of the organization design and entrepreneurial leadership appropriate for different stages of organizational maturity, from startups to scaleups and established organizations, particularly in the context of the creation and transformation of technology-based business, the common focus of the department. Of interest is how to design organizations and work practices that facilitate entrepreneurial behavior, new business development, and transformation.
Successful candidates will have a strong research record and demonstrated teaching experience in one or more of the following areas: change management, organizational transformation and development; design and management of organizational growth from the startup to the expanding and institutionalized organization; agile, flexible, and/or self-managing organizations; organizational culture and corporate entrepreneurship; and managing, developing and incentivizing individuals and teams.
We are looking for candidates with strong expertise in qualitative and/or quantitative research methods and data analysis, as well as a passion for teaching and working with students at all levels - undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and executive education. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, stakeholders, and industrial partners, as we strive to foster a collaborative and supportive work environment.
Throughout their careers, those in the academic tenure-track system are expected to carry out and supervise scholarly research, to follow the advances of their field, to provide high-quality academic education, and to participate in service to the Aalto University community and to contribute to broader societal discussions in their field.
The applicants should hold a doctorate in a discipline relevant for this position or receive the degree before the beginning of the contract. The applicants will be reviewed on the basis of their research, teaching, and activity in the scientific community.

We are one of Europe’s leading university departments in the field of technology entrepreneurship, focusing especially on strategic management and venturing, operations and service management, and organization design and entrepreneurial leadership. Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory & Practice, Research Policy, and
Journal of Operations Management in entrepreneurship, innovation, and operations and service management. The department conducts empirical research in close collaboration with the leading technology firms in Finland and Europe.
