Michigan Technological University, Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics (ME-EM) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level.
Applicants for the position are required to have earned doctorates in Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. All research areas are of interest, including additive manufacturing, circular manufacturing, cyber-physical systems, robotics, wave energy conversion and more. Other openings are available within the college of engineering in multiple programs.
Successful candidates will be expected to develop externally funded research programs in their areas of interest while fostering collaboration with other faculty, engage in both undergraduate and graduate teaching, and contribute to professional service. Our undergraduate program is currently 8th in enrollment in the U.S. We have been in the top 27 in BSME degrees awarded for the past 35 consecutive years. Our graduate program is ranked 58th nationally among the 181 (top 32%) doctoral granting Mechanical Engineering Departments in the U.S. by the 2020 U.S. News & World Report: Best Graduate Schools (ranked in 2019). Our department is 6th in MSME degrees awarded, 10th in MSME enrollment, 23rd in PhD enrollment, and 33rd in PhD degrees awarded in the U.S. The National Science Foundation (NSF) ranks Mechanical Engineering in Research Expenditures at Michigan Tech 19th in the latest rankings with $15.278 Million among all Mechanical Engineering programs in the U.S.
